SCIENTIFIC METHOD
for LAB
REPORTS:
•This
is the purpose or question which will be addressed by the Hypothesis
•The materials can be listed here and the procedure can be included in
the Data/Observations.
HYPOTHESIS:
•Written BEFORE
beginning any experiment.
•1-2 sentences
explaining what you think will happen
(i.e. "I think that...") AND explaining WHY based on some prior
knowledge (i.e. "...because...")
DATA/OBSERVATIONS:
•LIST any
and all things (quantitative
& qualitative) that you notice before, during, and after your
experiment
including procedures.
•Sight, Sound,
Smell, Touch, etc.
•This section is
NOT to be in paragraph form. Use
"•bullet" or some similarly organized form.
•Tables/Charts/Graphs
•Do not answer
questions or try to explain things in
this section.
CONCLUSION:
•Write a FINAL
summary of your findings and how they
prove or disprove your hypothesis. If your hypothesis is wrong, offer
an
alternative hypothesis.
•Answer any
questions and give explanations BASED ON
YOUR DATA/OBSERVATIONS!!
•State any
problems that might have caused your
results and offer solutions.
