Substitute Lesson Plans for Paul Fleischer   (E7)
(These are my Emergency Plans, in case I couldn't get Lesson Plans to my desk)
*Welcome and Thank You for taking the classes.
*The bell schedule is on the wall above the whiteboard in case the little cherubs try to sneak out early.
*Roll is to be taken on the copy of the roll sheet from the Attendance Office and I will update the online attendance when I return according to the roll you have taken. (if MY Roll Binder is on the desk, PLEASE DO NOT USE IT)
*They KNOW the rules of the class (I'm not saying they'll follow them, but they might plead ignorance-don't buy it!!) They're not to put on or take off anything from the desk and no one is allowed behind it.  They'll move around the room if working in groups but if you feel a riot might ensue, don't hesitate to revoke that privilege.
*Have a great day!!  PLEASE LEAVE A DETAILED REPORT OF HOW THE DAY WAS (GOOD/BAD) AND ANY NAMES (GOOD/BAD)!!!!!!!!!!!

10/21/19-10/23/19

10/21/19
(Seating chart is not used but the printout has pictures to go with faces and they are roughly in those seats - they can obviously get up to move to get help but keep track of problematic and helpful students)
1 Sheltered Earth Science
+Helpful: Itzel (Peer Tutor), Maggie (Mini Corps), Evelyn, Iraide, Osbaldo, Angela, Dulce, Carmen (Maria), Shehryaar, Azhar, Nelson, Yael?
-Be aware: Kimberly, Monserrat, Karen
*About 20 seconds before the bell rings, please turn on the projector and the document camera. Directions on each.
*When the bell rings, say, "Today I will..." and they will read the Language Objective for the day.
*They will have 5 minutes to answer/discuss the DR. It is under the document camera. (Iraide, Evelyn or Osbaldo can help if you don't know how to get it all set up)
*You can take roll during this time.
*After 5 minutes, please say, "Exchange". They will trade papers and grade each others. Ask them to read the question aloud. Ask for answers and explanations. The answer is "The Ring of Fire is an area around the Pacific Ocean where the majority of volcanoes on Earth are located. They occur along plate boundaries where magma can escape". They will score each others' papers and trade back.
*PLEASE TURN OFF BOTH PROJECTOR AND DOCUMENT CAMERA!
*They will use their books to finish the assignment that is on the board. We started it on Friday on the computers. They can use their phones to research info if you are comfortable with that. If you feel it is a distraction and they are not using them appropriately, ask them to put the phones away; if they do not, you can call for a campus supervisor to get their phones or just write their names down and they will not be allowed to use their phones again this year.
*They can work with partners; they may use their texts, online sources, and the globes (please be vigilant with the globes - if they are damaged, the students responsible must pay for them).
*They have a standard sheet (can also be found online) that has all the information for which they are to be responsible. By the time they are done today, they should have made an inference of why the earthquakes and volcanoes are in similar areas, and what information the ocean depths and land elevations give to explain tectonic plate locations. The clever ones will figure out that the ages of crustal rock also give clues which way the plates are moving.
*They will use their standard sheet and the texts to get as many notes done on the topics covered in the standard sheet. We will go over it on Friday and can get to the activities later.
*You can remind them that if they get a positive sub report, they will earn participation credit and Fleischer will be happy - a good thing; if they get a negative sub report, they will not be happy for at least 2 weeks. Really. Also, please remind them to get ALL of their papers out of the Out Box and Escapee Box!!!
*If anyone is done with ALL of their notes and the maps, they can redo their low scores from previous assignments. There are MANY of them who really need to take advantage of this.
*NO ONE has an excuse for not working.
*Please make sure they clean/straighten up the room before anyone is allowed to leave.

PLEASE LEAVE DETAILED REPORT WITH NAMES (GOOD/BAD)

3 General Psychology
+Helpful: Everyone
-Be aware: Not really anyone (on a good day)

*They have chosen to use this day to work on their Nature vs Nurture assignment. Remind them that I would like to see the write-up in the form of a lab report - they can check the website to see the format. Their other option is to redo low scores and develop questions to ask the hypnotherapist on Friday and the yoga instructor on 10/30.
*They really have a lot to do and no one should be off task.
*This is a great class and you shouldn't have any problems.

(Hopefully you are the person who covered the class for the last two days so there's some consistency. The classes today are only 35 minutes long. The only thing I have planned for them is for them to put Reflections and Summaries in their Notes from Periodic Table and what they've done so far for Plate Tectonics. They can redo low scores also. There are only a few students with A's so no one has any excuse for not working on something. Please remind them that although today is short, they will still incur unhappy consequences if they aren't doing what they're supposed to be doing.
I will be back tomorrow and their behavior today will determine if we do interesting activities or if they will be silently working out of the book for two weeks.
THANK YOU!!!
Paul
